Read the following text for numbers 1-2

To most who entered the room, my mother was already a corpse as her only signs of life
were read by machines. When she was spoken to, she did not answer. When she was touched,
she did not respond. It was clear that she would die imminently.

Cathy, an ICU nurse, entered the room. she introduced herself to my mother. “Mrs. Margalit,
my name is Cathy and I will be taking care of you this evening.” The introduction was not
responded. Cathy took each hand and each finger of my mother’s and slowly massaged them
with lotion, as if they were her own. My mother's hands rested softly on the sheets.

Cathy returned again later to check on my mother's status. The oxygen levels were stable.
By the second day of their relationship, Cathy called my mother with her first name “Nadia,” she
began addressing her, “I'm going to move you a little so that you don't get any sores.” As if
comforting a tired friend, she softly raised my mother’s side to prevent the sores that she knew
this patient would probably never feel.

A week later, I watched Cathy care for my mother through her death. I witnessed her doing
her job patiently. She developed a relationship with my mom who was dying, silent, and
unconscious. When others were too scared to meet their eyes with death, Cathy took her time to
a woman's hand through her final course in life.

We had lunch in an Italian restaurant and I had a tuna pizza. After that, we walked to the “Festung Hohensalzburg“.

Clouds may look fluffy and innocent, but they are actually active things. At their most exciting event, they can create the wondrous effect of lightning.

Water and ice move around inside the cloud; forced up by warm air currents, down by gravity, and compressed in the cloud. Just as rubbing a balloon can create static electricity, the particles in the cloud become charged. It’s not clear how it happens, but charges separate in the cloud. The positive charges move up, and the negatives move down.

Once a significant charge separation has built up, the positive and negative charges seek to reach each other and neutralize. ‘Streamers’ come up from the ground to form a pathway. Once a pathway is completed a spark forms, neutralizing the charge.

As the negative charge races down, the air surrounding it heats up. The spark is very hot at almost 20,000 degrees Celsius, and it rapidly heats the air to create a shock wave.
Considering light travels very fast – about 300 million meters per second and that sound only travels at 300 meters per second; light is a million times faster than the sound produced.

To find out how far away the storm is, you can count how long you hear the sound after the lightning. For every 4 seconds between the flash and the rumble, the thunderstorm is 1 mile away.
